Each week a photo is used, donated by one of the participants of Sunday Photo Fiction, and the idea is to write a story with the photo as a prompt in around 200 words. The photo doesn’t have to be centre stage, there have been times when I have had to read the story a few times to spot where the prompt is hidden. Please include a mention and / or link to whoever donated the photo.

Careful editing is the key to keeping the story within the constrains of the limit. 200 words may seem like a lot, but it disappears quickly. The challenge makes you look at replacing two words with one, and a little jiggery pokery. A few words over is sometimes necessary when there is no way of shrinking it without losing an integral part of the story. Using a program like Microsoft Word or Open Office have a word counter so you can see how many you have used.

Once you have written and posted your story, please add the link to the inlinkz froggy icon below and add it to the collection so we can all have a read.

If I haven’t read your story by the time the next week starts, don’t panic, I will get to it. I can’t always visit every one in a week. Thank you for contributing though. Don’t stop as there are others who also like to read. And I don’t miss a story. Even if it takes me a week and a half to get to yours.

  1. Hi Al, Thank you for using the photo.  I’ve added two stories, not so much to take two bites at the cherry (a pun that doesn’t work if the tree isn’t a cherry), but because I wanted to tackle the prompt from the viewpoint of both genders.  For some reason I couldn’t create two separate links, but both stories come up anyway. Although I’ve had the photo for a few weeks, I stuck to the spirit of flash fiction and wrote both stories quickly, at the last minute.  The one I thought of originally was very dark and would have needed many more words. It’s ironic that the image only prompted violent tales in my head, as the garden where I took it is one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever visited. Here’s hoping I can get back into writing now. Thanks again and best wishes, John

    1. Glad I could help John. I don’t normally tell people which photo I am posting, but as you had been having problems with your writing muse, I felt getting it out straight away may help you.
