Last week, I had a comment from someone telling me that they felt no thought went into the image. I put thought into every image I choose and have a list of some that I won’t use because they are too similar to others, some writers have expressed a dislike for that style of image or a locale of image.  I have spoken to one of the writers who takes part and mentioned to them the difficulty I have with choosing sometimes. I know I don’t have as many participants as some of the challenges out there, but I like to give something that people can grasp, and if I pick an image willy-nilly with no thought, then I would not be giving that service.

I chose last week’s image because I thought it would be more challenging due to it being books. The stories I received were excellent as they always are, and showed that no matter the prompt you all rise to the challenge, and I enjoy everything that comes out of it.

The idea of Sunday Photo Fiction is to create a story / poem or something using around about 200 words with the photo as a guide. Please try to keep it as close to the 200 words as possible. It doesn’t have to be centre stage in the story, I have seen some where the placement is so subtle, the writer states where it is.

Once you have written and posted your story, please add the link to the inlinkz froggy icon below and add it to the collection so we can all have a read. Any links not related to Sunday Photo Fiction will be removed.

The main object is to have fun.

  2. I can’t always participate, sometimes due to work commitments, time constraints or even sometimes the image doesn’t ‘speak’ to me. Not all images are going to suit everybody. I for one really appreciate the time and effort that goes in to hosting this sort of challenge. Please, keep up the good work.

    1. Thanks Sally. Sometimes my own images don’t speak to me even though I choose them. I don’t think of a story that could come of it, but if it has possibilities.

    1. Thank you Graham. I do enjoy reading the stories that come from them, especially when I think a photo is more difficult. Although it seems what I see as challenging, others create something quickly.

    I am aware how much work you put into this challenge and, like Sally above, I much appreciate it.
    My main regret is that too often, like the past week when I was again in Scotland, my personal commitments prevent me from visiting as many others as I would like.
    And, incidentally, I loved last week’s prompt, and your bizarre collection of books!
    Okay, time to feed the pigeons!

  6. I agree with ceayr in that I could not agree less with that comment as I personally loved the prompt. I sometimes see an image and cannot think of a thing to write, but that doesn’t mean it’s not an effective image. I also love the challenge and hope to participate as much as possible over the next few months.

Challenging, thought provoking and pushing me to go beyond my capabilities. Just like this one – i am sure to go bonkers (and have a lot of fun!) trying make sense out of this one 😀 Many thanks for taking the pains every week.

        I know it requires hardwork. It’s a time consuming job and I like your photos. As for my stories, I intentionally avoid participating in challenge for at times I thought, I’m producing same kind of stories..

    1. I am used to criticism from my photos when I post them on A Mixed Bag, or even the stories I create, I am also used to criticism when I use similar photos, or use one style too many times. But this one took me by surprise. Thank you for your support

  17. I thank you very much for providing the prompts, which is a service that others like myself use and make of it what we will. If our imaginations have to stretch just a little further for a given prompt, I think that can only be a good thing. (If it were easy, everyone would do it.) 🙂 I see birdies in my near future.

  19. WOW! Why would someone think it is ok to criticize a prompt? If they didn’t like it, why in the world would they participate? I think they were just looking to make someone feel as low as they apparently were……
    You do a great job with the photos you choose. I’m sorry I do not always get to participate but I always look at the prompt and read the responses. Everyone came up with very creative stories last week… and every other week for that matter. Try not to let someone like that get you down Al.. 😀 ❤

  21. I think you know where I stand, Al. While I, like others, may not be as regular with submissions (play time is what I call it because it makes me smile) and comments on the tales of others, your prompts are my absolute favorite.

    Here’s my problem with your prompts…they make my brain go on and on with much longer stories. 🙂

    1. I love that you call it play time. I agree that some pictures give rise to a story that seems to want to turn itself into a novel and trying to cut it down creates a whole new story that doesn’t make sense.

  23. Let me join the chorus of your hearty supporters, Alastair! Your prompts are always interesting, and I appreciate you being so diligent with keeping this challenge going, even in the face of your own everyday stresses and setbacks, like those awful computer problems. I was traveling this weekend for a family funeral, so I didn’t have the chance to write a story or read everyone else’s, but you know I like to join in whenever I can. Keep up the great work!

      2. I agree there. If I didn’t get the feedback, and so many people doing it, then I don’t think I would carry it on. I was running another one which was a weekly Haibun challenge, but that dropped to just one or two people doing it every week so I felt the effort I was putting in to it was not enough to carry it on. I may start it up again at some point soon as someone has expressed an interest.

  27. Hello! I’m with everyone else on this. You provide a weekly prompt for us writers to submit to: You keep it going and that is appreciated a great deal. I too can’t participate as regularly as I like but that’s down to my insecurities and self-doubt. But… knowing you are here and you do this is, for want of a better word, comforting because of its consistency. So, try to forget about what that person said, you know what you put into this and those of us who follow you value your effort very much!

  35. I tell everyone that hosts – or actually has their own blog…it is ‘yours’ to run the way you want.
    And I have enjoyed every photo. Sometimes to get a story I combine prompts – that’s my challenge to myself.
    Keep up the good work – enjoy what you do! I do!

      1. I know some folks highlight the ‘word list’ words…but I think that takes the fun out of it, just a tad. But I also like to post the list at the bottom to help ‘spread’ the ‘words’. I don’t always know what they all mean. And well when a word can be used in a few different or unexpected ways…that makes the challenge (to me) more fun. It’s nice to know that someone is looking at the wordle list 😉 I don’t always use them…OK most of the time I do 🙂

        Thanks for the photo, the place to write and taking the time to visit everyone who posts. I wish I could visit everyone who posts at all the prompt sites I play at.

        Let the ‘nay-sayers’ create their own spaces. Keep up the enchanting and most excellent place to play every week!

        I have a friend who uses some of the most beautiful words that I have never heard, and I have to look them up which gives me something new to my vocabulary – when I can remember them.
